The third-generation Boxster and Boxster S boast an
all-aluminium frame that is sleeker, with the main design upgrade, the
square-shaped headlights, being a teaser reference to the upcoming, still-newer
918 Spyder Hybrid Supercar.
Exterior
Aesthetics aside, the 2013 Boxsters are also pure performance machines, powered by flat-six engines with direct fuel injection, the efficiency of which is further enhanced by electrical system recuperation, thermal management and start/stop function.
The base model's new power unit delivers 265 hp from a 2.7 liter displacement - ten hp more than its larger displacement predecessor. Both models hold a manual six-speed gearbox as standard with the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) available as an option. With all that engine power, you'll get a really fast drive: the Boxster sprints from zero to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, the Boxster S in 4.7 seconds.
Interior
The new Boxsters are slated to arrive at Porsche dealerships by early summer of 2012, with the base car starting at US$49,500 and the S version at US$60,900. Impatient autofans who are twiddling your thumbs in anticipation, watch the teaser campaign below, and try not to hyperventilate!
